Prior to visiting a city, I suggest mapping out your itinerary in advance to make the most of your time there. My travel plan comes from hours of research sorting through information from a mishmash of websites, blogs, and advice from friends.
I usually like to mix up my travel adventure with a combination of traditional tourist sites as well as local and unique spots and experiences that can be hard to find on your own. Before I get started, did you know that New Mexico is the 5th largest state and has some of the most diverse landscapes in the US ranging from forests to deserts to farmland to mountains?!
I visited New Mexico for my 6 year anniversary in with my boyfriend Mike.
We wanted to pick somewhere that was health focused without being touristy, but was full of culture and outdoor activities, so New Mexico it was! It took us about 8 hours to get there from New York via a layover in Texas and we flew in and out of Albuquerque because the prices were cheaper and the times worked better.
Santa Fe does have a small airport which could be an option depending on where you are flying from. We rented a car at the airport and started our trip by staying in Albuquerque for a night at the most magical place, Los Poblanosa 25 acre paradise set on lavender fields with modern style farm rooms. Trust me when I say we talk still talk about this place on a weekly basis because it was truly that special.
From there, we drove a little over an hour to Santa Fe and spent 3 nights at an amazing wellness focused resort, Sunrise Springsand took day trips into downtown Santa Fe and surrounding areas to adventure out of the city. Please let me know if you get a chance to visit New Mexico and what you think.
I would love to get your feedback and I hope you enjoy your trip. About Subscribe. Toggle .

This boutique hotel is set on 25 acres of lavender fields and has an on-site field to fork restaurant that uses their own produce in the dishes pictures below. They have roaming alpacas and the cutest farm shop where you can purchase local and handmade goods I still order their lavender honey regularly Santa Fe : I had an amazing stay at Sunrise Springsa wellness focused hotel you can add on all-inclusive if you want with daily included wellness activities such as cooking classes, playing with chickens and puppies, and fitness classes I tried archery for the first time and boy was it a workout Book your hotels in advance.
I would suggest doing a hotel over an AirBnB if you can Rent a car. You will want one to get you from place to place and be able to explore unique spots all around the state Stay well hydrated prior to your trip and while visiting New Mexico because the altitude is extremely high Buy your tickets in advance for Meow Wolfas parking can be an issue and the lines can be extremely long In Albuquerque, know where you are going as there can be some unsafe areas.
You can choose between a 1. Make sure to stay well hydrated and wear sturdy shoes One of the weirder, but fun experiences I had was Meow Wolf in Santa Fe.
